~ The Obituary ~
Ethel Youmans Ford was born December 24, 1948, to the late
Harry Lee Youmans and Essie Mae King Youmans Polite in
Ridgeland, South Carolina.
Ethel graduated from Jasper High School, Class of 1967 in
Ridgeland, South Carolina. After graduation she moved to New
York. She was employed with the New York Postal Service. She
returned to South Carolina after marrying Grady Ford. She was
employed at Anvil Knitwear and Teacher Assistant at Lake View
Elementary and Middle Schools.
Ethel was married to the late Grady Ford and to this union one
daughter, Daneen Smith.
Ethel graduated from Florence-Darlington Technical College and
received degrees in Growth & Development, Program
Administration, Early Childhood Literacy, After School Care,
Infant/Toddler Curriculum, NSC/CPR First Aid Course, Special
Needs Professional Development. Ethel worked at Troy Johnson
Learning Center (Day Care), Mullins, South Carolina from 2001-
2024.
Ethel joined Little Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Lake View,
South Carolina and became a faithful and dedicated member. Ethel
was a Deaconess and a member of the Order of the Eastern
Star/United Order of Tents. She was faithful and willing in whatever
she did. She was also a caring and loveable person.
On January 9, 2026, the Lord called Ethel Ford home. Those
who left to cherish her memories, one daughter, Daneen Smith of
the home; six sisters: Clara Y. Peters, Hartsville, SC, Bertha Lee
(John) Mitchell, Pompano Beach, FL; Henrietta Y. Perigor, Lorraine
Youmans and Veinanna Youmans all of Deerfield Beach, FL and
Roberta P. Childs of Ridgeland, SC; cousins, Nazarine Beaton and
Lucille King of Ridgeland, SC; seven aunts: Mary Freeman, Barbara
A. Jones, Alice Williams all of Savannah, GA; Elizabeth King, Irene
King and Eunice King all of New York, NY and Annie Laira King of
Ridgeland, SC; one uncle: Franklin Youmans of New York, NY and a
host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents: Harry Lee Youmans
and Essie Mae King Youmans Polite; her husband Grady Ford;
sisters: Doris Youmans and Mary Bowles; brothers: Lucas Youmans
and Alfred Youmans.
